Claire Donovan edits Garmentnest. She spent eight years in womenswear buying before moving to editorial research — years spent reading spec sheets from the supplier side, where the difference between a garment that lasts and one that doesn't is visible two seasons before the customer sees it. She reads care labels for fun and returns nothing without a wear log.

What she covers

The site ranges across clothing, shoes, eyewear, jewelry and bags, and the through-line is method rather than category specialism: construction decides lifespan, and regulation sets the floor for what a label may claim. Marketing adjectives get skipped. The parts of a tag that are legally binding — fibre content, precious-metal fineness, UV ratings — get read against the standard that governs them.

The running series

Two series carry her byline. The Rulebook takes one industry standard or regulation at a time — the Textile Act's labelling requirements, the legal fineness behind the word vermeil, the zipper makers' grading systems — and works through what the rule requires, what it covers, and what it leaves out. Under the Lining is the construction side: a blazer shoulder, a sneaker sole attachment, a pair of glasses hinges, taken apart on the page. Each one ends with a single checkpoint — the one place to put your hand before buying.

How she works

Construction judgements stay anchored to publicly verifiable practice and published standards. Where a product wasn't taken apart, the article says so and relies on the maker's published construction instead of implying an autopsy happened. She doesn't accept brand deals, doesn't preview copy with manufacturers, and keeps affiliate links out of the Rulebook and Under the Lining series entirely. American English, no exclamation marks, and every piece ends on a checkable action.
